Good to see that it only took sports media two weeks to get what was obvious about a week and a half ago. The USOC is going to have to fire a lot of people.
It's depressing, and again, 3rd/4th makes no difference to me, but the media has been stirring up false bravado against the team every since their loss. It's at the point where I legit think that the Blues should not recognize the medal winners at a home game. I'm sorry for the four that won, but it would look ridiculous without mentioning the three Americans, and if they did they might get booed by their home crowd. There's no reason to risk it.
If there is any group out there that's completely used to cheering for losers, it's the St. Louis Blues fans... I don't think they have anything to worry about.
Oshie isn't going to be the next Mary Lou Retton or anything, but his fame within the hockey community just shot up 100 times. Now when they are on NBC it will be billed as "TJ Oshie and the Blues" because they will finally have a guy to latch onto. And you can bet that every non-local announcer (and our guys) will be talking about it for years when trying to find things to talk about during broadcasts.
I heard it suggested that Oshie may have done us a huge favor in terms of getting a Winter Classic. Who knows what effect it will really have, but I'm sure that exposure won't hurt.

The NHL won't do anything to risk giving the KHL such status. On top of that, the KHL is completely corrupt. Soccer has had to deal with its own cup issues, and the match fixing that has been caused by countries that are less stringent about controls have been damaged as a result. If a different country were #2, I'd be all about it. Since it's Russia, I can't be.
And, again: I don't care about losing a bronze-medal game in hockey. Once they lost against an obviously-better team, that pretty much ended my rooting interest. But every media report on the team has been "what a bunch of overpaid whiny losers", and Joe Six-Pack in the upper deck might buy that explanation.
I like the Olympics a lot, and even follow their work during the off-season. I have thought for a long time that the USOC is an old-boys network that is pretty much interested in PR and not interested in developing athletes, and their lack of effort is starting to come to a head. I don't blame them for hockey, because that's 100% the NHL. But I do think the USOC has needed a big overhaul for years now, and I'm hoping that this does it.
Any evidence of KHL's complete corruption? And what does soccer have to do with KHL? Also, if there was enough money (i.e., fan interest) in it for NHL, I am sure the league would do it in a heartbeat. The issue is that it's hard to predict fan turnout for a KHL/NHL match in US. In Russia, people will likely pack the stands to see NHL stars play, so that's a non-issue.

Agreed. Just to be an Olympian at all, win or lose, is a feat in and of itself and they deserve our applause. Over 300 million people in our country and only 230 of them were in the Olympics. What kind of tool would boo them?

I think the rumors are probably true that Coors won't allow the NHL to have a Winter Classic at Busch Stadium. They are currently lobbying hard for a game with the Avs at Coors Field. I don't think Oshie will be able to help us.

I didn't even realize Coors was an NHL sponsor. If it's true that they are keeping it out of Busch because of its name, that's really disappointing.
