That's what happens when you have players "getting chances", rather than actually scoring goals...all of that hard work...gone.

Halfway through overtime, this is not the same team that played the first 59:30.

Kids, that is the ONLY way this team was winning this game in OT, and that may be enough to break the curse. Absolutely putrid play by Quick, and Steen shoves it in.

The Blues DOMINATE the first 59:30 of regulation, and give up the killer.
The Kings DOMINATE OT, and give up the killer.

All is well for another 48 hours.

Can't wait until Game 2. Blues faced their demons tonight.

I am not too concerned about that late goal.

The Blues destroyed the kings everywhere but the score sheet, BUT we hit enough posts tonight and whiffed on some empty nets that I am confident that streak won't continue.

We play like we did the first 59.5 minutes and we are making a deep run this year.

It's just one game, but it was a HUGE win for confidence, buy-in, and maturing as a team.

Great start, boys, keep her going.

Holy crap.
Crazy roller coaster of emotions in game 1.
The Blues dominated about as much as you can dominate a game, and in all aspects too...except on the scoreboard. That's the best the Blues have looked all season. They came to play playoff hockey tonight. Wow they were good.

Except for Quick, the Kings didn't have it. The Blues didn't let them sustain any pressure in the offensive zone and we were all over them in their own zone. The Kings that we saw last year in the playoffs, are not the Kings that showed up in game 1...and the play of the Blues seemed to have had a lot to do with that. The Kings had no answer for our 4th line...OUR FORTH LINE. Reaves was an animal out there...unreal.
In fact, it was role reversal tonight. The Blues did to the Kings tonight, what the Kings did to the league last playoffs. Relentless, suffocating pressure & hitting...and then followed by more pressure and more hitting.

The Kings turned it on in OT and had some great chances. Scared the crap out of me.
The 4 minute PP had me depressed, but it started off great as the Blues thwarted their first three attempts to get set up in the zone...so I was optimistic at that point And then Quick decided to get clever with the puck, and it burned his ass when Steen made a bee line right for him, which Quick didn't seem to be expecting.
And BOOM, game over. I'm surprised I didn't wake my kids.

Wow. Amazing.

That game would have been a killer to lose. Dominating the entire game, and give up the tying goal with 30 seconds to go? ...ugh.
And from the Kings' perspective, if you score with 30 seconds to go in the game, you have to win in OT...you have to. Probably a much bigger let down for them to lose the way they did, as opposed to simply losing 1-0 in regulation.

Huge win for all kinds of reasons... getting out to an early series lead...ending the losing streak vs. the Kings...and the way they dominated has to give them quite a bit of confidence...hopefully. We'll see in game 2.

Nyghtewynd wrote:Congrats, Blues. You were absolutely dominant for 59 minutes. And that's worth absolutely nothing. Soft goal by Elliott..he had to do virtually nothing the entire game, and gave up the softie to tie it up. Backbreaking.
Elliott had to make a few very tough saves...including a sure goal that he got a piece of with his glove while on the ice...and the puck then went off the post.

I don't think it was a soft goal. It looked to be tipped, and it was tucked upper corner under the bar. That shot beats almost every goalie in that situation.

I have zero issues with the way this team played in regulation. Well, maybe they could have hit the net a few more times as an awful lot of their shots went wide. But if they play like that again, surely they net at least a few goals.

Elliott had a .966 save percentage. That's not good enough?

The fourth line has been given a name: Los Quatros, courtesy of our own fargoblues. (He originally was going with Los Cincos, but he was a bit buzzed :) )

Wow. While I will take a win any way you can get it, to me, it almost had that "winner by default" feeling. I'm proud for the guys; they persevered, but we need goal scoring. Now, I have to get the batteries changed in the old pace maker before tomorrow.

Great game.......but......

If you continue to fail to capitalize on the chances we whiffed on last night, it will come back to haunt you.

There were so many swing and misses at free pucks in front of LA's net last night that I thought David Freese was out there.

I wasn't knocking Elliott's play. I was defending the goal against, saying it wasn't soft.
