ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Thursday the club has assigned goaltender Brian Elliott to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen, for conditioning.

Elliott will start for the Rivermen on Friday against Oklahoma City and Saturday against Lake Erie before returning to the Blues following Saturday’s game.

Elliott, 27, has appeared in 11 games for the Blues this season, posting a 3-6-1 record with a 3.65 goals-against average and a .851 save percentage.

Overall, the 6-foot-2, 209-pound goaltender has appeared in six National Hockey League (NHL) seasons, including the last two with the Blues, posting a 87-69-21 record with a 2.65 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage in 191 career games.
Hm. Do we hope someone claims him off waivers, or do we hope he rights his ship? :?

He doesn't go through waivers. It's a conditioning stint.

Yup, and he still counts against the roster.

I would imagine this has to be a precursor to another move, we have 15 games coming in a 27 day span.....we can't keep three goaltenders on the roster and if they were going to try and get Eliot through waivers they would have tried it by now.

Pardon my ignorance but how can a team send a guy to an AHL affiliate as "a conditioning stint" and it magically doesn't make him go through waivers?

Can Elliott play for the team or is he literally just sent there to work out with the team or something? Sounds like the biggest and most obvious loophole in the world if he can actually play for the Rivermen

The reason he doesn't have to clear wavers is because he still counts on the 23 man roster. The only advantage here is that he gets to play a little. It's not really helping the Blues at all because they still have three goalies taking up roster spots.

3 goals against on 14 Oklahoma City shots midway through the 2nd period.
