Good for the Leafs as long as he can get past the whole not doing well under pressure thing, which he wont have to worry about in Toronto for awhile
Here is something interesting as well
New rule that targets cap circumventing deals that are already on the books:
To wit: let’s say the Canucks trade Luongo soon. Luongo has played two years of his 12-year contract, the Canucks paying him $16.716 million in salary but only absorbing a $5.33 million cap hit each year. That’s a cap savings of $6.056 million over two years so far for Vancouver. Under this new rule, should the Canucks trade him now and he retires with three years left on his contract, Vancouver would be charged that $6.056 million in cap savings over the final three years left on his deal from 2019 to 2022. However, let’s say for argument’s sake Luongo gets traded to Toronto, the Maple Leafs also would be subject to cap penalties if Luongo retires before the end of his deal.
To wit, part 2: If Luongo were to play the next seven years of his deal in Toronto before retiring, the Leafs would be paying him $43.666 million in salary but only counting $37.31 million against the cap over those seven years, a cap savings of $6.356 million. So if Luongo retires with three years left on his deal (because his salary falls to $1.618 million in the 10th year and then $1 million in the last two years of the deal), the Leafs would get charged that $6.356 million on their cap spread evenly over the remaining three years of his deal.

Yeah, I actually read where some even referred to it as the 'Luongo Rule' when they were drafting it.

Sucks for Florida, Canaucks fans are idiots. Remember the game four of the 2008 or 09 playoffs against the Blues; when he played so hard through 3 periods and through a overtime with 18 seconds left, that he had to go to the hospital for dehydration? I just don't understand why you wouldn't want that type of guy contract or not.

I'd rather have a goalie who was properly hydrated.

^ True story!
So Burke and the owners and ect were all together last night @ the Marlies vs Hamilton game last night? Something must of happened last night, I bet it has to do with the Luongo trade. IMO Burke didn't want to bring Luongo over due to giving too much up if you included the Cap hit issues they get with him in the new cba?

Nothing to do with the fans that he is being dealt. Sure some fans have shit on the guy but the majority of fans like and respect Luongo. His twitter account is epic these days. He has played some fantastic hockey in his 6 years here , but he has also had some epic meltdowns at key times. It's time for Cory Schneider to get a chance to carry the load. I'd hate to deal Schneider and then watch him be a top goalie for the next decade. Roberto has 4 or 5 years left and he has intimated that it's time to move on.
I'd rather not see him go to the Leafs and have to watch him ev ery Saturday night on CBC but if they are willing to cough up Jake Gardiner that would make a deal with TO more acceptable. Apparently the Flyers are interested in a three way deal. Will be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

Hey...I was just passing along info from 590 The Fan out of Toronto. That is what they were hearing.
And who knows... maybe it would have happened if Burke wasn't fired.
Besides...I didn't say which Thursday.

Luongo's a 5.3m cap hit and the Leafs have 10m in Capspace. I can see Luongo being a double-edged sword due to his contract but he would be in the right direction for the Leafs to make a turnaround. Why the new management said no is beyond me.
