Western Standings, 6 April

A lot of discussion has already occurred in yesterday's thread, but it just wouldn't be right to just change the date and keep the same thread. So here we go:

So last night did a lot to clear up the playoff picture, yes? Sort of. It is clear which teams are in the playoffs, but there is still some question about who will get certain seeds.

NSH won and DET lost (because :detsucks: ), meaning the Preds jumped back into the #4 slot and have a 1-point lead over the Wings. Both teams have 1 game remaining, so home ice can STILL go to either team.

VAN's loss means that with two wins to close out the season, the Blues will win the #1 seed in the West. If VAN wins its last game, and we win both of ours, we end up with the same points, but the Blues hold the tiebreaker.

LA, SJ, and PHX are still muddying the waters for spots #3, 7, and 8. SJ beat LA in the shootout, so right now they are both 1 point ahead of PHX, but PHX has one more game in hand and has the potential to finish ahead of both teams.

As of today:
VAN vs. PHX
STL vs. SJ
LA vs. CHI
NSH vs. DET

These are the teams joining the dance, but we still don't know who our partner will be. What will piss me off is if we win our last two, PHX wins its last game, and SJ beats LA in regulation, we will win the West but face LA in the first round.

This is bound to happen......and is the WORST thing that could happen.

(Frank) it, if they're scared of an opponent in the playoffs they shouldn't be there. Bring on Quick, bring on Rinne. Bring on the Wangs. Bring them all on.

Maybe karma from the CLB win is hitting LA in the form of Ryane Clowe?

From the bench, he puts his stick on the ice to interfere with Stoll heading up the boards. Clearly touches the puck. No call. And afterwards he (Clowe) acts oblivious to anything happening.

Too many men and an unsportsmanlike?

I think you misunderstood. They were playing the Kings, not the Wings.

Wow.

Reporter: "Did you touch the puck with your stick?"

Clowe: (grins) "I have no idea."

Something similar happened to the Blues in the early 00's. Mayers was breaking in alone and a player (Chelios as a Wing?) blatantly reached out and hooked him from the bench. If I remember right it went unnoticed and he scored anyway.

The craziest thing about that play? Mayers scoring on a breakaway.
