Flyers misspell players name . . . for five years

Post by cardsfan04 »

PHILADELPHIA -- What's in a name? For Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Nicklas Grossmann, it's an extra n.

The Flyers had a familiar face, yet a new name on their roster Tuesday night: Grossmann.

Grossmann had long had his name spelled Grossman -- with one n -- on his jersey, his locker cubicle, everything because that's how it was assumed he spelled his name.

Grossmann, acquired last month from the Dallas Stars, said a Flyers employee noticed the discrepancy when he saw Grossmann's passport. Grossmann confessed his name had been spelled incorrectly since his rookie season in 2006. Philadelphia's 3-2 win over Detroit on Tuesday night was the first game he wore a jersey with the correct spelling of his name in the NHL.

Grossmann said when he was young, he didn't want to complain, saying, "I was just happy to have a jersey with my name on it."
Not the most interesting story ever, but I thought it was kind of funny. How does a team misspell its own player's name for 5 years?

I think it's awesome that he was so excited to play he didn't complain.....hockey players are just different from other professional athletes.

If that was a wide receiver in football, they would have held out until things got corrected and then they would hold a press conference where they refer to themselves in the third person 50 times and talk about respecting their 'brand.'

Point being: hockey players > all other sports players

Correct. I realized that after I posted the thread, but didn't bother to go back and change it.
