The Blues have more shutouts (12) this season than trades made on deadline day (9).

Listening to NHL Radio over the past week, many believed Andrei Kostitsyn would be a mistake if the Predators acquired him. This game come a Predators asst coach, the Preds play-by-play guy, and yes, even David Poile their GM - so Poile was blowing smoke.

The reasoning - The Predators are a defensive system team and everyone on the roster has bought into that system. There are no players who work outside the system. Andrei Kostitsyn is not a defensive player and is not known at all for working defensively. Yes, he is supposed to become a regular 20-goal scorer, but will that be enough of a difference to overcome is defensive lapses.

The theory that Andrei Kostitsyn will buy into the Predators sytems: His brother, Sergei, will convince him to work within the system.

On the surface it looks like a good deal with the added offense. From a locker room perspective, it looks questionable.

Game over. Not surprised, and not disappointed.

Maybe no moves gives the guys a bit more of a boost. Not that the blues could have really made many moves anyway.

OZ said it all...there is nothing to be worried about.

I'll go ahead and beat the dead horse though...I see our additions as Steener, Langs, and Dags coming back healthy, hoping that nobody else goes down in the process. That, and the fact that this whole 'we need a scorer' angle is completely overblown.

We need the players who are expected to score to score. Berglund (who is maybe the most unlucky player I've ever seen), and Stewart (although he's been a bit better lately) come quickly to mind.

That and the fact that scorers are more rare than ever...and even more rarely dealt.

During the Winnipeg game, Panger mentioned talking with Armstrong about Steen who was on his way to Anaheim to see the specialist who helped Andy MacDonald. Basically, don't expect Steen back this season, but it was phrased more politely as don't expect to see Steen soon. Seeing as the playoffs start in 5 weeks, "soon" won't be by playoff time or they likely would have mentioned it.

He also said Langenbrunner was the closest to returning, which he said was a couple weeks away (sooner than expected, which I thought was odd). But didn't bode well for Steen or Dags.

How is it that Steen was supposed to return to the lineup a couple weeks ago and it was even reported the day of that he was going to play...but he didn't, and now he's still out.

I think the keystone cops are heading up our medical staff.

Concussions are like that. Steen's issue is happening when he is working out. He is fine, otherwise, which makes things look less serious than they appear.

Yeah, the story I read said that he felt great, but when he really pushed himself physically he started having vision problems.

Wanna read something crazy? For some concussions, someone might be perfectly capable of working out, but can't do basic school work without having vision problems or getting headaches. Concussions suck. Which is why I get ticked when players take head hits and there are zero consequences. See Weber hitting Sobotka as an example. Look it up on youtube. Weber even left his feet.

Trading was down for everyone...the big names (aka Rick Nash) would have cost too much and the Blues with their money problems would have only made lateral moves had they made any trades. Guys, we have 83 points at the trade deadline and are the 4th best team in the league.

This team was built to contend from the get-go.

Well we've been saying it year after year "THIS is when the young guys turn the corner" and it's about damn time things started clicking.

We have crazy-good depth, amazing goaltending this year (that in and of itself may be the reason for our position more than anything else) and even though our young guys are putting up huge stats, most everyone is contributing and playing their role.

If the playoffs didn't happen this year I'd be at the point of saying blow it up and start over.
