It's a popularity contest to get ratings, like it's always been. Otherwise, Halak wouldn't even be considered for it. Elliott deserves the shot. Seems like this is quickly becoming the Year of the Backup for the NHL.

Elliot has the best stats in the NHL for crying out loud. I'm still not sure why he is not our number 1 right now. I understand he has a history of imploding but so does Halak. Even Thomas was headcase and out of the game for a bit and look what he did last year. I say we ride this guy like Seabiscut until he implodes or takes us to the cup.

Carey Price earned a place and was neighboring Montreal's lone representative. The discussion for the final spot in net came down to five guys. Pittsburgh's Marc-Andre Fleury and Nashville's Pekka Rinne were eliminated quickly, and Brian Elliott beat out Minnesota's Niklas Backstrom and Mike Smith of Phoenix. Elliott hasn't played in as many games, but his numbers are spectacular. He carried the Blues before coach Ken Hitchcock got there and, let's face it, it would be a fantastically juicy storyline should the ex-Senators goaltender return to Ottawa as an All-Star.

Good for Elliot. He's very deserving which is a tough feat for somebody that shares starts with another goaltender.

Also, did the Blues originally announce Halak made it this morning? I didn't see it, but somebody on ESPN's message board suggested the Blues did that.

Glad that he got in. Other than Elliott I really don't know who else we would send, kind of along the same lines others have been saying.

Clearly deserving and glad he's going. Says something about the voters though when he didn't even appear in the top 9 goalie vote getters last I had checked

Yeah, I don't know who else we could send either. Backes maybe? He's not quite having an all-star season though, at least point-wise.

The Blues seem to have a ton of above average players, but no true all stars. And, I'm completely fine with that (although an all-star goal scorer would be kinda nice).
