Why the (Frank) is a first round pick going to the other way?

A second is coming our way.

I don't like this deal. EJ still has the highest ceiling, and we just gave up on him.

I'm not crazy about giving up on EJ. And I'm not crazy about giving up a 1st round pick. And if we have a top 10 pick this year, we have the option to keep it and give Colorado our 1st round pick in 2012 instead.

With that said...I really like what we got in return. I haven't seen a lot of Shatenkirk, seeing as he has only played in 36 games in the NHL.
But here's some notes on him:
- Is tied for first among NHL rookie defensemen in goals (7) and ranks second in points (26).
- Second-highest totals by a rookie defender in Avs history (Liles 10 goals, 34 points in 2003-04).
- Was one of 12 rookies to participate in the NHL SuperSkills competition as part of All-Star weekend.
- Had a nine-game point streak, Nov. 17 to Dec. 4.
- Was just the second rookie defenseman in NHL history to compile a point streak of nine or more games, joining Barry Beck, who had a pair of 10-game streaks with the Colorado Rockies in 1977-78.
- Tallied 11 points (4g/7a) in 13 games during the month of November.
- Was the first rookie defenseman with 11 or more points in November since 1991 (Nicklas Lidstrom 17, Vladimir Konstantinov 13).
- Had a career-high three points (1g/2a) on Nov. 27 vs. Minnesota
- Picked up his first NHL assist/point on Nov. 12 at Columbus and scored his first goal on Nov. 17 vs. San Jose.
- Made his NHL debut on Nov. 4 vs. Vancouver
- Recalled from Lake Erie (AHL) on Nov. 3

What the (Frank) just happened?!

HOW on earth do you deal a former #1 overall D-man with three seasons under his belt. I cannot believe this, whoa.

Management is done f*cking around it looks like, jeeze.

It's obvious that was the centerpiece of this whole deal. I don't know a whole lot about the guy either. The Avs got a bunch of young guys stockpiled but we REALLY had to have wanted this guy. This is crazy.

This trade has all the makings of one of those you look back on and think that either a) greatest move evar or 2) Epic fail. Blockbuster trade type stuff going on

:plusplus:

Unless there was something in Shattenkirk that the brass just couldn't pass up on. I don't like this deal either and I don't see the necessity for it at all. Brewer was one thing, he was older and on a contract year. This just baffles me.

Yeah, my first reaction was WTF??
But I really know nothing about Shatenkirk...and the notes on him seem pretty good...really good actually. I want to see him play before I get pissed about this trade.

Stewart had a great rookie year last year and started off this year great, but he's cooled off quite a bit recently...which scares me. How many guys have had good rookie years, but never did anything else?

I think this trade is going to shock everyone.

I didn't think it was possible, but we just got a whole hell of a lot younger between yesterday and today.

This trade is one, massive gamble for both teams. The Blues are banking on Stewart being a big point producer, and Shattenkirk turning into a stud. They are equally guessing that EJ isn't going to be the total powerhouse we all expected him to be. And that's not even getting into the first rounder we just gave up which is puzzling to me

I don't like it. Riskiest trade I've seen in a long, long time. We just gave up a TON of assets on the hope that these two guys are going to pan out big time.

Just... wow.

I honestly thought this was a gag joke when I opened this thread

(Frank). We just gave up a 1st overall pick. Now we have to completely suck again to get another one. Who's next, Oshie? I don't like where this is going!

On the brightside, Johnson has the "1st overall" label which automatically ups his trade value even if he's not 1st overall material. Shattenkirk may very well be a better defenseman.

Armstrong has balls. Wow this is a ballsy trade.

Still can't believe it.

Well...you can't say they aren't trying to do something.

I assume they will be in the lineup tonight. Colorado last played on Wednesday...so they should be well rested.

I must say that I got on this site to see everyone's reaction to the Brewer trade. When I seen "Blues trade EJ and McClement" on the main page, I thought it was a joke. I haven't been that shocked to read breaking news online since Heath Ledger died.

The other thing too is that a trade like this is 9 times out of 10 not a knee-jerk reaction. They had to be in talks about this for a while. I gotta believe the Blues had their eyes on Shattenkirk for a while and saw something they really, really liked. That's the only explanation.

I DO like that the first rounder in conditional though that was a good move on the Blues' part.

This trade would be a whole lot better if everything remained the same, only we put Berglund in place of EJ.

 Somehow I don't think the Avs would've accepted that version of the deal
