Making room for a actual scorer perhaps?....also now Backes definitely should be the "C"...thought we could get more out of him, but he will be a FA in the off season...feel bad for Tampa though, we just ruined there Stanley Cup chances....

I am glad that we can finally have a new captain.

Brewer may have been a better player for this team if he wasn't also given the responsibility of the C in addition to the fan expectation that he could fill the void in the roster left after Pronger was traded.

You can't undo what has been done, so the club made an excellent decision to move on.

Good luck to him, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!

LET'S GO BLUES!!!!!

EDIT: The player in the Brewer trade is a 7.0C grade - same as McRae, our #6 organizational prospect.

Dammit. I wasn't going to party tonight. Oh well  :goblues:

Here's what Hockey's Future has on our new boy Beukeboom
Talent Analysis

Beukeboom is the son of former NHL defenseman Jeff Beukeboom. He is a defensive defenseman that also has some offensive ability and a skill component to his game. Beukeboom can play with a mean streak when warranted, but is more of a two-way player than was his father, who was one of the tougher players on the Wayne Gretzky-led Oilers and won four Stanley Cups. The younger Beukeboom, a forward during much of his youth hockey career, has the ability to join the attack and has a hard shot. As expected, he is still dealing with learning the position and is sometimes caught outside the play. And he will need to improve his agility and read-and-respond time as he progresses to pro hockey. Beukeboom has a strong work ethic and is constantly seeking to improve.

Future
Beukeboom will return to Sault St. Marie for his third season of juniors following Lightning training camp. He is still fairly raw in developing his all-around game but has the desire and physical size and strength to be a solid defensive defenseman with an offensive component to his game.

Jeff Beukeboom's son. Plays with a mean streak and is still learning to play defense, since he grew up playing forward. Grades out as a 3/4 defenseman with a hard shot. We shall see. A mean streak is something the Blues could use, but it looks like they just made room for Nikitin to play more and create an opportunity for Cole to move up if anyone else is moved.

I have been drinking since hearing the news. I heard it after running at Creve Coeur Park... then immediately drove home and cracked open a beer. My boys and I weren't gonna do anything tonight, but a celebration is in order.

Best day ever.

I had to dig all the way back to page 108 for this one. Why? Because it's relevant in current times. The 3rd round pick we got from Tampa Bay turned into Jordan Binnington. We can officially say we won that trade 8 years ago.

Wow, unreal.

Goes to show, you get enough picks and prospects some guys you don't anticipate really DO pan out. Might take years, but it happens. Crazy.

I have the same issue when I see #21. My first thought is "WTF? Jamal Mayers retired years ago!"

I still have Tyson Nash etched in my brain as #9, even though Schwartz wore it for a short bit.
