Re: 2011 NHL All-Star Roster
Shocked Halak didn't make it, especially after being the leading vote-getter in the West, for goalies.
Would have liked Steen to have made it, but I'm not shocked that he didn't. I think I have more confidence in him than anybody active on the Blues atm.

Probably a good thing Halak didn't make it - that way we don't have to watch him sustain a season-ending injury during some skills competition...
Re: 2011 NHL All-Star Roster
Would have been a good story if Halak and Price were both either playing against or on the same team....also I like the jerseys....and congrats Backes, he deserved it.Portland Blues wrote:Probably a good thing Halak didn't make it - that way we don't have to watch him sustain a season-ending injury during some skills competition...

I don't mind the way they do it, guys being selected on a not-totally-based-on-fans-system.
Yea Backes! Get some!

Re: 2011 NHL All-Star Roster
I'm glad Halak didn't get in. I don't think it's really a good thing for goalies to go get bombarded and tired out in a stupid exhibition game.
David Backes however might like getting a little time in the spotlight. Let him feel what being a star is like and maybe it will push him. Who knows.
It's pretty sad though that David Backes is the best guy we can send over.

Time to raise a serious Bullshit! flag on the goalie list.brynec wrote:Goaltenders: Jonas Hiller (Anaheim), Tim Thomas (Boston), Cam Ward (Carolina), Carey Price (Montreal), Henrik Lundqvist (New York Rangers), Marc-Andre Fleury (Pittsburgh).
Western Conference reps: Hiller
Eastern Conference reps: the other FIVE goaltenders.
No bias at all in those "selections."

And, yes, the leading vote getter for a conference at a position should have been selected. Why aren't they giving the fans what they voted for - at a minimum?

Not that Halak deserves it, but just what is the purpose of the vote, anyway?

The top 6 vote getters are in. Everyone else is 'drafted' in. Of the top 6 vote getters, 4 were Penguins and 2 were Blackhawks. Wahoo.Leedog wrote:Not that Halak deserves it, but just what is the purpose of the vote, anyway?

Ok first question is how in the hell are the teams going to be set up? Can't really do East vs West here.

Re: 2011 NHL All-Star Roster
Two captains will be picked by the entire group. Those two Captains choose the teams, schoolyard style. Seeing that the All Star game is in Raleigh, my guess is that Eric Staal is one captain. Crosby probably will be the other, but you never know...philco_3 wrote:Ok first question is how in the hell are the teams going to be set up? Can't really do East vs West here.

Crosby and Ovechkin are the two obvious captains to me. I really hope they split up certain teammates. I want to see Crosby on a breakaway vs Fleury, the Sedin brothers on opposite lines, and Kane/Toews battling would be kinda cool (although them getting into a fight and hurting each other would be 100x awesomer. yet even less realistic).

Re: 2011 NHL All-Star Roster
Backes deserves to be the last guy picked. Look at everyone else on that roster. He stands out like a sore thumb.
I mean, he's a good player and I'm sure any team would be happy to have him on the roster, but an All-Star sniper he is not.
It's just really sad that he's the best player the Blues can send to the game. The craziest thing is that he's been completely invisible most of the season, and is getting in based on his play of the last few weeks.
Who would they have picked if the All-Star selections were a month ago?

Re: 2011 NHL All-Star Roster
I would pick a goalie last, they only play a period and even Roy at his prime couldn't stop Crosby Stamkos and Ovi coming at em.
