The A. Nigro stuff stopped being funny a long time ago...and to be honest, it's annoying how it seems to get worked into every thread now and not to mention it could also be quite offensive. Call it spam, thread hijacking, racist, offensive, or whatever...but it ain't funny.

It is not unreasonable to think a poster or lurker on this board could be an African-American.

I like to think I have a good sense of humor, and I HATE non-stop political correctness, but I think those jokes are just bad, bad, bad news for this board. I have been shaking my head at the jokes for awhile, but kept my mouth shut. Now I see I am not the only one that thinks these jokes are inappropriate.

I get that many or all of you guys don’t mean anything by the jokes (and in fact the joke has a component of making fun of racism of the past), but I think the line can become blurred for some that fail to pick up the sarcasm.

Also, the use of this joke is thrown around so freely, there has been at least one instance of another poster taking this line of humor one step farther, seemingly because they felt comfortable doing so in light of the A. whatever line of jokes. I am not going to name a particular poster, but some jokes were made in another thread that might enrage a current or future lurker or poster. They just went a step too far.

These jokes may give the board a very unintended reputation, even if your intentions are not to be hurtful.

Just food for thought: How do you know every poster or lurker here is white? If you thought for a minute that there was a black guy reading these boards, would you let that joke go? How do you know I am not black?

I’m not a mod anymore guys, just a poster. So nobody needs to accept my line of thinking. Nothing I can do about it. Just my two cents.

I really thought hard about whether or not to comment on this issue, but I don’t want to leave like-minded posters feeling hung out to dry either.

The line was crossed for me when it went from making statements about A. Nigro, the player, that could actually be read as true, or read the other way to have a racial flavor (i.e., "The man is keeping A. Nigro down in the minor leagues") to just straight up racist statements with the N word replaced by his name.

Once we start replacing Nigro with actual slurs, it's just a runaway train.

I'm no saint, and I'm sure I've made offensive jokes on this forum, but this particular collective trend is just going too far.

I really have no strong feelings on the matter, unless these jokes are meant as racist slurs then that person is a true disgrace of a human, but i would like to believe that most people use this just as a clever play on words. However if jokes are going to be regulated by the mods shouldn't there be other jokes judged too for being offensive? Like saying "Heatley'd" when a penalty is killed off. I don't find it offensive but i do find this joke to be in bad taste. Couldn't this joke also scare off the potential lurker?

while I find the A. Nigro jokes amusing, I understand where everyone is coming from. It could really deter people from joining the board and maybe even give the board a bad reputation.
