I'm told the Blues will likely sign D.J. King to a contract before they move him to Washington

Della Rovere will score goals, but he's best known for his chippy, bordering on dirty, play. At the NHL level, he'd likely be a fourth-liner.

You know what I trust more than hockeysfuture.com's assessment?

All that matters now is what goon thinks.

Who knew Matt Walker was that much better than DJ King? We kept the wrong guy for the last couple years.

This kind of sucks. I'm sad to see King go; the guy could kick some MAJOR ass. A great guy to have on your team in a fight on home ice. Unfortunately, he couldn't stay healthy.

Of course we kept Janssen. Keeping the hometown guy is one of the affordable ways to keep the rubes buying tickets.

Did they wonder if anyone would buy tickets to see Paul Stastny? The Phil McRae fans are filling the building in 2013! :letsgoblues:

DJ will play on a line with Ovechkin sometime, and if they click, everyone will whine that we let a scorer go.

Instead of Ovie 4 Prez, here comes Ovechkin Fehr King.

So we trade a player who is becoming a top heavyweight enforcer, who could actually skate and play hockey. To keep Cam who is completely worthless..........but oh wait he's a local guy so that gets rid of the fact that he does nothing for the team. That's like listening to a band that is ear-rapingly horrible but since they are a local band that somehow makes them good. FTW

They kept the guy that accepted his qualifying offer. Neither King or Janssen have a big enough role for me to have much of an opinion on who should have stayed, but it makes sense that the first guy that was willing to sign is the one that stays. No matter who you think fills the role better, they both do the same thing for a few minutes every couple of games. Once Cam signed, DJ had to know that he was likely to be moved.

Cam is not an exceptional hockey player, but to say that his only value is being a hometown boy is melodramatic.

Okay, I know I said "*yawn" earlier, but listening to those who have more to say about this than I do... I don't know guys, we might have come away with a steal on this one...

From TSN comments, all of which had high "thumbs up" counts
I guess Washington has too much depth that they couldn't see him making their lineup anytime soon so they got rid of him. I'm sure they could have got more than a relatively unknown tough guy. St Louis are really picking up steals this year. Give them a few years and you'll see them as a legitimate contender again. (+5)
Brain cramp Washington?
I don't see the sense in this deal, a top prospect for a fighter? Come on McPhee! (+8)
another win for st.louis ! (+8)
This might have been a MUCH better trade than we are giving credit for. He captained an OHL team to a conference finals, has played for Canada in the world championships...

I think we're losing sight of the fact we got this guy for D.J. King instead of the fact that it was King and not Janssen. Hell for all we know the Caps specifically said "No Janssen." This might be a total steal, guys...

The Caps could have signed King to an RFA deal at that price. If the Blues refused to match, we would get nothing in return.

Oh I won't question if its a steal for us, but I don't like us trading DJ for him.

Why?

Okay, he's better than Janssen. On my list of compliments about the guy that's about where it stops.

Without examining the Blues' depth chart- off the top of my head we got Backes, Winchester, Janssen and ?Sobotka willing to drop the gloves. It's not like we just dealt the only guy who can hold his own on our team.
