Too late for Cheechoo?

Post by TSUCookieMonster »

Ottawa just put him on waivers today... he's struggled of late... it's 3.5 million/year. Is Cheechoo past his prime at 29?

The Blues clearly aren't going to take him, but dang... the guy had 4 real solid seasons with San Jose before a bad season and a short stint with Ottawa.

Is this just a case of a guy riding on the coattails of his linemates? (in San Jose)

You know, on second thought, I'd rather just have Demitra back to finish his career in St. Louis.

I think this is the first step in the buyout process. Didn't they already wave him in the middle of last season? Now, if he became a UFA and you could get him on the cheap it might be worth Winchester money. Can't be much worse.

Cheechoo has no knees left. Think Vladimir Orszagh. He's already washed up.

Personally, I think he's done.

Having said that, I guarantee someone will bite and sign him to a one year deal. Part of it is the terrible crop of free agents this summer. Someone with a playmaking center with no help on the wings is going to take a gamble and sign him for like $1 million or something. Toronto?

I never thought he was that great of a player. He was riding the great play of his linemate, Joe Thornton. That guy set up Cheechoo non-stop that year Cheech won The Rocket Award.

Having said that, Detroit will sign him and he will be a 40-goal scorer.

If Cheechoo signs somewhere...

I'm setting the over/under for goals at 12.

I would rather see what Higgins could do if given another chance.

Lower ceiling than Cheechoo yes, but I think Higgins has a better chance at earning his keep.

Yeah I heard he had a significant injury of some sort, a knee injury perhaps, and hasn't been the same player since.
