Post by WaukeeBlues »

Salary Cap reality is certainly setting in for Chicago. With that being said Byufuglien hasnt hit 20 goals in his 3 seasons, I know he was amazing in the playoffs but I dont think Chicago will free fall as a result of this. Jeremy Morin will probably be outscoring him in a few years. Not to mention they get a #1. Atlanta is starting to look scary with all their young talent though (Bogosian, Little, E. Kane, Byfuglien, etc.)

Eager was also involved.

I really hate that Byfuglien has to go, I obviously really liked him. He was built for the playoffs, and will be missed. He didn't score a ton of goals, but the important thing to remember is that he came up as a defenseman, and can still play that position very effectively. It's hard to find a defenseman of his size with such versatility, and that's what will be missed the most.

Sopel...a lot of Hawks fans didn't like him for some reason, but he was as big of a part of this team as anyone else. Flashy he isn't, but he is a very good defenseman in his own zone. With the shots that he blocks, and as good as he is positionally, his absence WILL cost us.

Eager can be replaced, although I do like him.

Aliu is a head case. Good riddance.

In all, I think the Hawks did well. I don't really get caught up in picks or prospects because it's such a crap shoot. Granted, that's how this team was largely built, but Dale Tallon is gone. Until the guys are regulars in the lineup, I don't pay much attention. Remember all of the hype that Jack Skille had, and he's yet to find a regular spot in the lineup.

The important part is that the Blackhawks will now have the room to qualify Niemi and Hjarmalsson. Call me crazy, won't be the first time, but I still believe that Huet is just as good as Niemi. It all comes down to confidence at that position, and Quenneville didn't do Huet any favors this year. Their numbers are around the same. Every time Huet had a bad game, or a bad goal, it was always "I told you so"...but when Niemi did the same, it was always "He's young, he's the future!"

Sorry for the rant. I was VERY worried that the Blackhawks were going to have to get rid of Sharp. In all, I'm much happier with the loss of Byfuglien than I would've been with Sharp. I would have been even happier if it would've been Versteeg instead of Byfuglien, but oh well. The Hawks have lost a little, I'm not going to kid myself...but they're going to be fine.

Seriously, Bufuglyone was a borderline 2nd/3rd line player. Anyone can be a pretty good players when they have stud linemates. Now that he's in Atlanta, you'll never hear from him again.

I disagree. He will become Coach Q's Stephane Matteau...

I am however ashamed to say that I had a Terry Yake rookie card when I was a kid and thought he was so awesome.

Yake kicked ass in NHL '94 on Genesis.

I know this wasn't about NHL video games but I'm taking it there...

I remember Yake being my reliable 4th liner on NHL '99 for N64. God I ran that game into the ground. I was so excited because it was the first game that the graphics were barely good enough to see players' names on the backs of their jerseys for instant replays and I thought that was just the coolest thing ever.

Now you can see the individual stiches on the individual letters on the backs of the jerseys  how far we've come...
