Make Thursday GDT today?
I would like to bitch slap the person who made this year schedule. We wouldnt have played so many back to back games this year if they would have plugged in games in these 4-5 days off.

And just like that... we're 5 points out of the last spot again.
Debate whether or not we NEED help from other teams, but I sure would appreciate any help they'd give us.

I'd rather play tag with a cement truck on I-70 than start a GDT, much less an early onephilco_3 wrote:Make Thursday GDT today?

I agree with the scheduling, I guess I'll fire up the centre ice and watch some hockies

Sit back and hope those teams that we don't need help from find it in their hearts to do so anyways.

Maybe we should start the next GDT early so we can talk about the next game in there...

If anyone does anything that even remotely contributes to the Blues losing to the Islanders, I will not be able to walk around my neighborhood unshamed for a few days.kodos wrote:Maybe we should start the next GDT early so we can talk about the next game in there...
Translation: Start a GDT early and I'll push full force for your ban.

Two games are on tonight. St. Louis has 69 points.
Washington is up 1-0 half-way through. It isn't on NHL Network, though. We want the Capitals to win in regulation by a large margin.
Los Angeles (80 pts, 5th in West) plays in Columbus (61 points, 14th in West) at 9:30 CT. We want Columbus to win in regulation by a small margin.
We just had a 2 week break, and only 4 teams are playing? weak

Re: So... what are we supposed to do until Thursday?
Also, GM meetings began today, so start your speculation.
The big topic is head injuries. I heard of some strange playoff format discussions, too.
Teams ranked 1st - 7th advance, with the division winners advancing as 1, 2, 3 seeds. This leaves the 8th spot open.
The proposal was that the final playoff spot in each conference is decided in a single elimination tournament. Here is the format I think they mentioned:
8th v 15th
9th v 14th
10th v 13th
11th v 12th
There would be 3 rounds, or 7 games. There would likely be a reseeding after each game, where the highest ranked team remaining plays the lowest ranked team remaining. The tournament winner is awarded the final playoff seed.

Re: So... what are we supposed to do until Thursday?
I think this format could have interest for the NHL GM's, pres'z and owners. The idea is that the distribution of the points in the final standings are clustered around the rank for the 8th seed. If there was more distinction between the 8th/9th seeds, we wouldn't see this proposal.

I think 84 games is sufficient to determine the 8 seeds for the playoffs.

How's these for radical ideas:
Get rid of helmets, pads, goalie masks and padding, and large curves on the blades
Contract 10 teams -- NOT relocate
Distribute the players of those 10 teams to the other 20, overages go to the farm
Restore traditional conference and division names
Restore traditional conference and division rivals
Make the playoffs top 8 teams league-wide

Re: So... what are we supposed to do until Thursday?
Kind of interesting. I don't think I would hate it. It really would make every game count for every team. Teams not in the top 8 would still want to battle it out for seeding in the elimination tournament. I would also wager it would be a long, long time before you see an 8 knock off a 1 seed for a while. That 8 seed will be exhausted heading into the playoffs.OPTIMEGUS wrote:Also, GM meetings began today, so start your speculation.

I could also see it as a complicated system that would turn the casual fan or random television viewer off simply because its different and they don't immediately get it.

82 games, and I agree with you. Its like taking a class where you are buried in homework, and your final exam is your grade. Do you do the homework? Hell no.fargoblues wrote:I think 84 games is sufficient to determine the 8 seeds for the playoffs.

HUGE Day for the Blue Note today...
If Nashville defeats Atlanta (favored)
If Detroit defeats Calgary (favored)
If Minnesota defeats Florida (favored)
If Anaheim defeats Columbus (favored)
We're 7 points out and in 13th
Plenty to watch and root for/against this evening.

Don't say that too loud or I'm sure JD and company will bill us season ticket holders for two more games.
