And the thing is, it wasn't just a slump earlier. Berglund was a complete shell of himself, he had NO confidence whatsoever. Murray did a number on him and it only got worse when he wasn't producing. He's got the size and the skill set. What I'm impressed with is that he seems to have gained confidence on the puck after Payne came on board. But what concerns me is more the mental side than the physical skills. Many a-talented athlete have been felled by issues between the ears. Don't want to see that happen to Bumps, and part of me wonders if Murray would have stayed around this entire season, he may have ruined Berglund's mental game completely.

Throw in some exclamation points, some ones and some misspellings and I am all about this post.

Murray did a number on a few of our young players imo, but hopefully they will take it as a learning experience from a veteran-biased coach and move on and play their game the way they went into their NHL careers.

I would add Backes to the underproducing list too. He's on pace for about 18 goals vs. 31 last year. Maybe last year was a career year, but he still needs to put up 20-25 goals for what we're paying him, and I think he's capable of that. Maybe the intense competition in the Olympics helped light a fire under him, we'll see.

You said 20 -25 and he's on pace for 18, all he needs is one big game or two in the final 19 and he's right there. I'd say that's not really underproducing.

IMO he's a 20 goal a year guy and he's right on that pace.

Backes is a good blue collar worker. That is what he has done for us, that is what he did in the Olympics. I think he just got hot last year and maybe put to much pressure on himself. I don't really feel he has achieved less than he could, I think we might have put to much stock in what he did last year and expected to much. Perhaps as fan's we keep looking for a savior or as the sign's say "the last piece". We have a lot of needs but and problems, but IMO #42 is really far down on my list as far as problems with this team. I am just saying.
