10-11 Season Ticket Prices

Post by Guppy »

I just logged into my account on the Blues site and saw this in my invoices. I'm not sure about others but mine are going WAY WAY up. From 440 a season to 735.

I am in the least expensive area and just a few years ago I was paying as little as 330ish for a full season. I doubt I will get a full season since there are other ways to get deals on tickets.

Total Invoice Amount: US $735.00 Pay Now

Overdue Amount: US $0.00
Next Payment Amount: ( Next Payment Due Date April 1, 2010) US $735.00
Outstanding Balance: US $735.00
Amount Paid to Date: US $0.00

Just saw this...

http://interact.stltoday.com/blogzone/m ... ase-today/

The Blues will announce today a price increase on season tickets for the 2010-11 season.

The rate of the increase depends on whether season-ticket holders “iced their price” this season by renewing before the April 10th deadline. For those who did, and therefore didn’t have a price increase this season, the average jump will be 14 percent. For those who didn’t renew by last April, and paid a 10-percent increase this season, the average leap is four percent.

“I think it’s important that there was no increase last year, which was the right thing to do then,” CEO of Blues Enterprises Peter McLoughlin said. “Now the pricing for them will be consistent with the new buyers . . . It’s an extremely good value. The atmosphere in the building is great. It’s reasonable to go up in this fashion at this time.”

Eighty-five percent of season-ticket holders renewed their tickets this season prior to the April deadline, according to McLoughlin, so the majority of ticket holders will be part of the 14-percent increase.

The Blues have the fifth-lowest season-ticket prices in the NHL this season, and McLoughlin said Friday, “I’m absolutely confident that we’ll remain in the bottom third of the league” with the increase next season.

The renewal rate on season tickets this season was 85 percent, and the season-ticket base climbed over 11,000. The club has a goal of 12,000 season tickets for next season.

“Season tickets are the life blood of the franchise,” Blues President John Davidson said. “That’s how it works. We think it’s been a good experience (at Scottrade Center), and the team is getting better. The young guys are developing. We want people to stay and enjoy themselves. We want, as an organization, to keep improving. It’s been a real good marriage with our fans.”

Davidson noted that the three-year entry-level contracts of Erik Johnson and David Perron will expire at the end of this season, and next season will be the final year on the entry-level deals for T.J. Oshie and Patrik Berglund.

“When you develop young players, and they come out of entry-level, the price of them goes up,” Davidson said. “We have to make sure we retain our players.

“Ownership has never taken a dime out of this franchise. But (the ticket increase) is the price of doing business.”

Just did some checking to see what the difference is across the board.

Of course this is what the price was if one did not ice their price or were new ticket holders

The first number is what next years price is. The second number in parentheses shows this years price:

Glass A
200 (187)

Glass B
150 (143)

Glass C
110 (110)

Glass D
110 (110)

Club Center
140 (137)

Club Corner
110 (110)

Club End
85 (85)

Plaza Center
99 (99)

Plaza End Low
61 (61)

Plaza End
42 (42)

Blue Chip Low
42 (38)

Blue Chip
34 (31)

Mezz Center Row A
48 (44)

Mezz End Row A
36 (33)

Mezz Center Low
38 (38)

Mezz Center
24 (24)

Mezz End Low
24 (24)

Mezz End
11 (16)

Here's the deal....if you were a season ticket holder who 'Iced Your Price' last year, when ticket prices rose 10% I believe, you are charged that 10%, plus the 4% of prices that were raised this year.

If you didn't 'Ice Your Price' last year, you only pay 4%, since you already paid the increase from last year. That's the way I understand it.

so in other words, one would have been better off paying the increase last year.

Well, doing the quick math, no, as you didn't pay the inflated price this year in addition to paying it next year.

I would rather pay a smaller increase than a larger one obviously. I am sure I am not the only one that would have said that if the prices go up the next year that I will go ahead and pay the smaller increase instead of a large one. But they locked in people to ensure the number of ticket holders. Doing it this way will make people walk away more than bring them in.

OK, so let's say you didn't ice your price. A 10% increase on a $10 ticket bumps it to $11. Then a 4% increase over $11 raises it to $11.44. No matter how you slice it, $10 to $16 isn't 14%, or 10% + 4%.

And, let's not forget, they didn't ice the price to be nice guys. They did to ensure income certainty in a recession, and get their money up front. Last I checked, we are still in a recession and still have 10% + unemployment. Big mistake. I've been a STH since 90-91 and get tired of seeing people with no commitment get 2fer deals, free food coupons, etc, that we don't. But it is worth it for cheap tix. Maybe not now.

The thing is....even raising these ticket prices still keeps the Blues in the bottom 5 or 10 in the NHL in ticket prices. I mean, you could buy season tickets for just $7 a seat a few years ago. I really don't think there is all that much to complain about.

This team will spend money. But you have to realize that they just hit the black last year, after 3 years of Checketts' ownership. He's gotta make money somehow. It's a non-issue really.

Soccer tickets are looking better and better. I can catch nearly every game at home on television, with a better game experience and better "seats" than if I go live. I can't see AC STL on TV, and I get way more games for way less money. I might try to be one of those "lucky" people who live off of special ticket offers.

Guppy you must be sitting by the DaDitka and me because we are in the exact same boat. I am not that good at math but $440 to $730 seems to be a little bit more than 14% increase.

I'm thinking it's a safe bet that I won't be renewing after this. Considering gas, parking, concessions......and the fact that nearly every home game is televised in HD........I just may be staying home next year.

I never said that 735 from 440 was a 14% increase. The article said that it was an average of 14% across the board. My tickets are a 60+% increase. Lots of folks sit in those sections. DaDitka could be on the other side of the venue for all I know.

I'm really on the fence about renewing. I hate to cancel. I have been a STH since 90-91. Have some seniority. Just about the best seats in the price range. Would hate to start over down the road. But.... I really don't want full STH. The girl that shares my tix was looking to reduce the number of games already. At $20 per game for 2 tix, ok I'll keep 30 games. At $32, maybe not.
Does anyone smell Blues bucks like last time they tried a drastic increase?
