Brewer is a really good one. Just reading through his wikipedia page is a bit funny (not that that is the best source). "Mediocre. Re-signed. Injury lost for most of season. Promoted to second line duty. Traded. Re-signed. Olympics. Pay increase. Traded. Injured. Re-signed. Mediocre. Named captain."

cprice12 wrote:Right now, I am 100 times more excited about the future of Oshie and Perron than I am about Berglund. I hope he comes around, but I just don't see it happening any time soon.

I don't disagree, I just didn't think Berglund got much hype at all. It appeared to me he was the least hyped of Oshie, Perron, Johnson, or Backes. I did state that Bergie has been clearly our most disappointing player.

Again, I guess it's perspective.

I agree with your view on Oshie, but you look at preseason projections or listen to people talk and they all paint Oshie as a more talented player then he is. He is easily the hardest worker on the ice, and I really appreciate that. But I feel that he’s portrayed as a star in the making by many and then we’ll hear how he’s a flop when he never reaches his potential (like people mistakenly thinking this team would have not only made the playoffs, but had home ice in the first round).

I didn’t mean to bash Oshie at all when calling him overrated, I was bashing the expectations many are putting on him.

I mean everyone is up in arms that he didn’t make the Olympic team. Think about that……he didn’t make a team that has been tagged by far our weakest in twenty years (according to the analysts in NHL network).

Funny situation when one of your best players is also one of your most overrated.

peole love oshie on multiple levels...
1. he is a solid good player
2. he has personality (smile) which makes him a fan favorite (just like *tyson nash, only oshie has actual talent)
3. he has a cool number (74) which makes him stand out. if he had #10 or 22, it just wouldn't be the same.
4. the ladies like him

*nash was a fan favorite, which ultimately made him way overrated. (aka rex hudler for the cardinals, you make one diving catch and crack your head open in front of the home crowd and you are the next coming of the wizard)

Would Oshie/Berglund be over-rated if Joe Thornton was their center? I just think some of their issues is we don't have a legit #1 in the middle...

Plus it doesn't hurt that he gives 120% every day, and every shift.

And I mentioned that. Kid works his azz off. That doesn't make him a 'superstar' he's clearly one of my favorite players. I have his sweeter, my daughter idolizes him, but he is what his is....A Great Role Player.

What we’re discussing 'over-rated' and I feel much of the local media and the vast majority of fans would have you believe he's an elite talent...and that is not the fact.

You obviously haven't seen many Penguins games lately.

Crosby has developed into the complete package. He isn't Gretzky, but he is currently the best player in the NHL.

Ovechkin could be the best, except he is a headcase. Washington isn't going to win anything until AO grows up.

think about it. gretzky's talent came about in somewhat of a perfect storm of situations....just like mcgwire, sosa and bonds.....it was the steriods, the dilouted pitching around the league tighter wound ball, the small ballparks, they all contributed to more home runs in baseball............
...............compare that to gretzky, it wasn't that he was a great player......he was only great by the standard set by the rest of the league......goaltending sucked in the mid/late 80s...........there were several teams who just plain sucked ass, there was no parody, a few great elite teams and the rest of the league was pretty much a muckraked piece of moldy tangerines. yeah i said that.
