Well crap...I called and didn't get it free. They just gave me Starz for a month, which is fine and dandy, but I kept egging the guy on asking him if they had any deals for disgruntled hockey fans that were customers. Nope. I got friggin' Starz. It makes my wife happy, but I would like free hockey for a year. Bastards.

Did you say, "cancel service" at the voice recognition prompt? That takes you right to customer retention and they offer it up right away. At least they did for me and for a buddy of mine.

If you keep calling back, I would think you'd eventually get someone who will give it to you. They've given out a LOT of free Center Ice packages.

I'm going to try calling at lunch. From what I've read, Customer Service can't offer the free CI, but Customer Retention can, so I plan on talking to them directly. It's worth a phone call to get my CI (which I get every year anyway) for free.

That was my experience as well.
The first time I called, I called customer service and they refused to give me free CI.
When I called the next day, I said I wanted to cancel my account at the voice recognition interface and they sent me to customer retention. They offered up CI right away.

So far I have gotten 5$ off and free Showtime. I am going to call back and ask for customer retention. I will do the cancel subscription. I am not sure how much weight I have since I already have the CI package.

It worked! I called up, said I wanted to "cancel service" like Curt said. I explained I was a hockey fan and was upset about losing Versus, and they offered me free Center Ice right away. Awesome. Now if they could just get Versus back before the next Blues game on it.

I called back and got two women who dont even know about hockey.

That being said, I did get three months of show time/starz and hbo. My son wants to get the sports package so I may say leave all of that alone and give me the sports package instead.

I also got a rebate of 81.50 for CI that I already purchased. So not bad...I may call back one more time...LOL

Just called myself, I got this season of Center Ice free... 6 months of Starz! that automatically cancels, and the operator told me I didn't have to go to work tomorrow. (She claimed she couldn't guarantee the last part =()

The dispute between Versus and DirecTV, which began at the end of August and kept the cable home of the NHL off the air for fans with the satellite service, has finally come to an end. Versus confirmed today that an agreement is in place and the station is back on Channel 603.

From Versus:

DIRECTV and Comcast have reached an agreement to return VERSUS to the DIRECTV programming lineup today. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

VERSUS will return to the same DIRECTV programming packages it was in at the end of August 2009.

"We are pleased that both sides were able to work out a satisfactory deal to bring this programming back to our customers," said Derek Chang, executive vice president, Content Strategy and Development, DIRECTV.

"We're excited that we were able to come to a fair agreement that puts VERSUS back in millions of homes with DIRECTV in time for our busy spring programming schedule," said Jamie Davis, president of VERSUS. "We look forward to super-serving these fans with NHL regular-season and playoff coverage, our first live UFC event and much more."
