Re: Suck it, Detroit.
According to the NHL.com standings, Detroit is listed in last place. This may be the only time we see Detroit as last place on an official standings document, so milk it up while you can.

Re: Suck it, Detroit.
This league is just too damn good for Detroit to keep winning divisions with the goaltending they have now.
Last year their offense made up for the awful goaltending. But they lost a lot of firepower in the offseason and added a well past his prime Bertuzzi.
Chicago could take the division from them this year.
Or, if we get solid goaltending from Mason like last year, with some luck on the injury side of things, we may win the division.
To win the division, you'll have to beat Detroit...and we've done that twice already.
So far so good.

You're dead on there.
'If' and that's a HUGE 'if', we get the goaltending we got from Mason last year all year this year, we could be in the running, but again, that's a BIG 'if'.

Re: Suck it, Detroit.
I think Conklin is going to make a huge difference this year. Mason has a ton of confidence right now and knows he's the number 1. Conklin will definitely steal us some wins. He looked pretty good on Saturday. Seems like him and Mason play a pretty similar style. If we stay healthy, we're going to be good. That's all there is to it.
I love hockey. Period.

Re: Suck it, Detroit.
Sorry for getting slightly off-topic, and I don't usually give ten shats about Minnesota sports teams but TWINS WIN!! TWINS WIN!!! Walkoff run in the 12th to defeat teh DETROIT Tigers.
SUCK IT, DETROIT!!!!!
The Tigers led the AL Central by seven games on Sept. 6. They had a three-game lead over the Twins with four to play. Their champagne was poised and chilled for uncorking.
Instead, the Tigers dog-paddled toward season's end while the Twins did a Michael Phelps and out-touched Detroit at the wall. Not only did the Tigers have a lead going into the final few days of the season but they had a lead going into the bottom of the seventh and 10th innings of Monday evening's game. Each time, the Twins did just enough to tie or, finally, inch ahead.
SUCK IT, DETROIT!!!!!

Re: Suck it, Detroit.
NOW before we get a bunch of Wings fans in here whining about how evil we Blues fans are for wishing ill thoughts on a city thats about to implode financially and athletically..........
You guys brought this on yourselves. It's called KARMA and it comes back around. In the mid to late 90's your fans would come out in droves and post on ANY st. louis message board to say how the Red Wings are the best and St. Louis is a bunch of rednecks. Well it looks like all your sports teams are about ready to suck it up and you are all about to become rednecks because your city is in dire straits financially. IRONY eat it bitches

Re: Suck it, Detroit.
I won't feel comfy saying Detroit has fallen from grace until we're a little further into the season and they are still sucking. Let's see where they stand after 20 games.
Don't get me wrong...I think the Red Wings, on paper, are easily worse than last year... and Chicago, St. Louis and Columbus are all better.
But it is way early. And with St. Louis being much better, it shouldn't be a shocker that we beat them twice...even though on the NHL Network today, they had Lidstrom on and they were asking him "what went wrong?" in Sweden. And not at any time did Lidstrom or the interviewer give credit to the Blues for playing well. They just talked about "not being ready to play" and "needing to play better defense". He chose not to rip on their goaltending.
A poster over at LGW said that "worst case scenerio" (meaning the absolute worst that could happen to Detroit this season) is that the Wings would finish 2nd overall in the West.
Hmmmm....
I wonder what happened in the offseason that made him come to that conclusion? Was it losing 80+ goals on offense? Or was it not improving the league's worst goaltending? One has to wonder...

What is Jiri Hudler doing, exactly? This is from last night, after he scored Detroit's second goal in a 7-2 drubbing by Montreal.

Re: Suck it, Detroit.
Howard was the last goalie picked in the ASG draft...in the 10th round, which is when you have to have your goalies picked by.
Price was picked before Howard. Wow.
Oh, and Elliott also picked three rounds before Howard. Suck it.
Maybe Howard isn't well liked amongst other teams, you know, since he decided to bitch/moan and punch everyone for looking at him funny.
