2021 Fan Empathy Rankings

Post by WaukeeBlues »

Mainly just for fun: What team's fan base do you feel the worst for?

I have zero empathy for the Vegas fans. They were gifted a playoff team right out of the gate and it would be a damn near miracle if they even missed the playoffs any time soon.

I do kind of feel bad for the Canucks fans, they should have at least one cup by now and now they have a geographic rival who will probably be more successful than them and faster.

I would add Arizona to the top tier - f'ed up ownership, then prior GM screws the current GM by violating tryout rules.

And move Vegas to the bottom tier. 5 years in the league and 4 Conference Finals already?

Since we are Blues fans, it's fair to mention the Blues as an Expansion team went to the Cup Final their first 3 seasons. Of course, the entire Conference was expansion teams so one was guaranteed to be in the Final. Between Bowman and Les Patrick as GMs, with Bowman as HC, they got the most from their roster in those first 3 seasons compared to the other 5 teams.

I personally would move San Jose and Nashville into the bottom tier. No sympathy for either, but for different reasons. San Jose- several of my least favorite players in the league. Nashville- an absolutely unwarranted arrogant fanbase.

Vegas was one I wrestled with. Only reason I put them second from the bottom is that these last 2 years they were actually expected to make noise and win and they got bounced... this year in upset fashion. So their fans finally felt some bite. But yea, could easily put them in the bottom.

I seriously considered putting Buffalo by themselves in a league all their own at the top. What a mess, I feel so bad for them. And, probably unfairly, I weighed what I deem to be the respective "passion" of each fanbase. For example: ok, Arizona hasn't been good for... ever, but do the fans really care? As compared to, say, Buffalo? Like I said, probably unfair but I let that play into my decisions too.

It's a fun exercise :)
