Rangers just traded Brassard for Zibanejad or i don't know to spell his name but it's a savings of 2 mil/year. Money for Shattys extension? Trade on the horizon?

I'm thinking the same. It's a cap-space move for sure. Watch this space...glen a richter wrote:Rangers just traded Brassard for Zibanejad or i don't know to spell his name but it's a savings of 2 mil/year. Money for Shattys extension? Trade on the horizon?

Re: Free Agent Moves and Major Trades
For what it's worth...
Derek Stepan's cap hit is 8 mil per
Chris Kreider is an RFA likely to be in the 4.5-5 mil per neighborhood, I'd estimate
Mats Zuccarello is at 3.5 mil per
These are three guys I'd want from the Rangers, and for them to afford to extend Shatty, they could use the 2 mil from today's trade plus trade Stepan but pick up some of the salary. Shatty for Stepan and they pick up say 1.5 mil per of his salary works for both teams.

Re: Free Agent Moves and Major Trades
One small correction, Stepan's cap hit is only 6.5M. NHLNumbers
Would the Rangers be willing to part with Stepan after making that investment in him as a player for their future?

Derek would require Shatt plus a top six roster player. We're not in a condition to make that kind of trade at this point.
Chris would be the most likely to make a Shatt straight up trade for, but we'd need to make cap space for him...
Mats would be a nice acquisition and could probably acquire him with prospects and Shatt.
I'm with you Glen, I'd love any or all of the three, but I don't think this route is any part of Army's plan. I really expect to get either picks or a prospect from the Shatt trade.

Re: Free Agent Moves and Major Trades
Now that we have all these hopes for a good, young top 6 forward from NY, it'd be hilarious if it ends up being Rick Nash.

Re: Free Agent Moves and Major Trades
Any interest in Jiri Hudler? As of today he is still unsigned. Wonder if he would bite on a 1-year, $1.5 mil contract?
I suppose it's a similar situation to bringing Boat back-does another 3rd liner really improve our team?

Re: Free Agent Moves and Major Trades
The fact no one has signed Hudler suggests a few things any of which could be true.
1) He's not interested in still playing
2) He's not getting offered what he wants.
3) GMs are playing the waiting game to see if he still wants to play and would come in under a PTO.
Those are the three possibilities I see. If it goes to option 3, I'd definitely offer him a PTO and if he's good enough to supplant someone on the roster, figure out the cap.
I'm sure there are other reasons someone else will point out.

PTO to defenseman Mike Weber. Question... why?

28 year old experienced left defenseman. Just depth if he makes team. Wouldn't see much ice time unless there were injuries.glen a richter wrote:PTO to defenseman Mike Weber. Question... why?

Re: Free Agent Moves and Major Trades
Yeah, I mean, it's just a PTO. Why not? Worst case scenario is it's Paul Bissonnette and he's here for a few weeks and then gone. Best case is a Scottie Upshall or Scott Gomez where they at least offer some value in the regular season and give you some minutes.theohall wrote:28 year old experienced left defenseman.
