Scott Gomez profession try out at Blues camp

Post by APOD »

Time to sign old/homeless NHL veterans to PTO's for training camp.

I'm guessing insurance for Lehtera and to give the guys some extra bodies at camp. I was hoping for Lee Stempniak to camp here and maybe push for a extra forward role move Backes and Berglund to center if Lehtera can't start the season.

But what is this? Maybe Stempniak is coming to camp too! http://twitter.com/andystrickland/status/636253459176665088

Wouldn't be sad in the slightest to see Stempniak back in the 'note. Especially if it's in a depth position.

Better insurance for Lehtera than anything we have probably. Doesn't really play defense at all and yet is a 35-year-old vet. Hitch would be completely torn.

Playing here will end Gomez' career. Don't expect anything beyond 10-15 points IF THAT on the 4th line and bottom-level minutes. We need impact players, not this.

If Gomez makes this team, which he won't...but if he does, he isn't going to play on the 4th line. That's not his role. He'd be a 3rd line guy at worst.

And just an FYI...Gomez outscored Berglund last year in 20 fewer games. So there is that.

One of Stempniak, Upshall or Gomez may well be signed to fill in while Berglund is out and until Lehtera is back up to speed. Fabbri's winning a starting Top-9 forward position will help ease my fears of The Blues becoming older and slower. The veteran will likely be the 13th forward and mostly sit in the pressbox.

Not bad for a guy playing hurt thanks to an incompetant medical staff.

Besides, didnt the majority of points Gomez netted were on the PP?

Well I like Gomez as an option to hang around in case it's absolutely necessary, but I still want to see the kids make the team.

God, yes. The last couple offseasons and trade deadlines, I've held a personal shrine hoping Stempy comes back. The time is now. Do it. Make it happen, Army. I know he never played in Dallas, but I want to see Stempy back in the 'Note one more time. And then we can sign Carlo to a deal at some point and just laugh at the Leafs as we roll out a Stempy/Steener line w/ Carlo on defense.

Player's Tribune article by Scott Gomez

Not Done.

Read the whole thing. Don't quit in the middle like I almost did after one particular paragraph about "dump and chase."

Interesting position he has put himself in and the kind of guy Hitchcock loves.

I figured this was my last hurrah in the NHL, so I went full-out balls to the wall. I decided I didn’t care about fitting in whatever scheme was in place; I just grabbed the damn puck and played my style of hockey.
This is how everyone needs to play next year. I'm not saying not to listen to the coaches, but if you see an opportunity take it...aka be a little RECKLESS

If everyone on this team played balls to the wall hockey all the time, they'd have at least 3 Cups by now. I wonder if they're just too chickenshit to play the way they know will work because they have to know Hitch's way doesn't work anymore. Do they just follow the company line so they can stay in St. Louis? I get it's a popular place for players to go, and a lot of former Blues stay in the city after retirement but ffs, if you want to win a Cup when do you get to the point where you (Backes) go into Hitch's office and says dude, there has to be a better way?

If Gomez has a really good camp and Lehtera isn't ready for opening night, I think we could see the journeyman centering the 3rd line wearing the Bluenote next month
People are like Slinkies. Not really good for much, but it's fun to watch them tumble down the stairs every once in a while.
