Martin Brodeur
Says he wants to test the free agent market this summer and wants to play next season. Thoughts?
As long as the price is right, I can't see a downside to having Broduer in the bluenote. He'd be an insurance policy if Elliott's game goes to hell, it'd be an invaluable player to have while Jake Allen develops into a future starting goaltender... I don't see any reason to pass on him unless his salary requirements are unacceptable.

Keep 3 goalies on the active roster? I'm not a fan of that.

Martin, dude, retire. You have absolutely nothing to prove, you've done everything and you'll be remembered with the best, and hell, you've done it all as a Devil and only a Devil. Leave on top.

Re: Martin Brodeur
Pass. We have 2 goalies on the NHL roster, Binnington is ready to take over for the Wolves and we kind of need the money if we want to get Stastny and Spezza.

Re: Martin Brodeur
Yeah, Marty doesn't fit in here. It'd be great to have an all timer in the Note, but his best days are far behind him. I could see signing him if we didn't have Allen ready to inherit the backup/1B role, but since he is, there's no room for Marty.
Also, the fact that Marty will play for anyone other than the Devils is a shame.

He would be a better backup for the Hawks over Raanta - but at Brodeur's age I feel he is just another Khabibulin at this point.

I could see him going to Florida. Then it won't be much further for him to go when he checks into the old age community after next season's over.

I lost respect for Brodeur when I read the story about him and his sister-in-law - sick.

Re: Martin Brodeur
How much longer before he says screw it and retires? It really looks like no one is biting on even a backup role for him. Calgary should have taken a shot if they didn't blow their load on Hiller. Brodeur's veteran experience would have helped Berra develop more and I don't think Berra is really all that bad. He just has a shit team in front of him. On the other hand, I assume Brodeur intends to go to a team that's set to win now given that he'll probably make this his last season. So how many legit contenders actually need an over the hill back up goalie?

Re: Martin Brodeur
No... the guy wants to be playing half the games. Not happening. The only teams I could see picking him up is the awesomely managed coyotes, oilers, or maple leafs. Maybe the islanders would pick him up, 9 year front loaded contract .

Re: Martin Brodeur
Some guys just don't know when to hang 'em up. I suppose if I was in the same situation it would be difficult to let go as well, but I think it's time for Brodeur.

Re: Martin Brodeur
He's one of the greatest of all time, but this is a Brett Favre-like misstep at the end of his career. He should have hung them up as soon as the Devils lost Game 6 to LA in 2012.
