I love when he does those smoky burnouts with the Rascal tape deck blasting Foghat's "Slow Ride".

Reports are that the Islanders are offering Kovalchuk 10 years, $10M a season. Still want him?

They have to overpay, if he wants to go to a better team there's no way he gets close to that. Just what they need to get that Lighthouse whatever going though.

Kovalchuk doesn't care about the money. The real selling point is the proximity to glen.

Sheldon Souray cleared waivers, obviously meaning the Blues have no interest there for the moment. Meh.

Moving on to more boring news or lack thereof.

I wouldn't be interested in a defenseman on the tail end of his career who's serviceable but making $3 million more than he's worth either. Especially when we've already got at least two guys who somewhat fit that bill. Now when Souray's discounted at 1/2 price on re-entry waivers, that would be something to ponder.

And I had no idea he was creating such a stink in Edmonton- you read some of the comments by fans left on the TSN article and a lot of people are agreeing he was even worse than overpriced, he was also being a douche too. Wasn't aware of that end of the short stick.

Read that as 4.25 PER year at first and almost blew a stack. 4.25 OVER two is a GREAT deal for the team IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I love Carlo, I really do, but is he really needed? I mean, here is what we have for next season on D.

Jackman - Polak
Brewer - Johnson
Colaiacovo - ?????

And I have already heard rumors that we are bringing Weaver back. If that's the case, we have the exact same D as last year (maybe fill the 7 spot with Petro or Cole). Except for Jax and Bonehead Brew, I like our D. But its obvious that they weren't strong enough to lift us into the playoffs. Even more importantly, when is this team going to start showing signs of actually bringing in that youth that we keep hearing about? Carlo is good, Weaver played well last year, but I would MUCH rather see Petriangelo or Cole up here. They need to be playing and if we keep signing these veterans, they are going to end up wanting a trade or signing somewhere else. I don't want that and I know none of you want that either.

And am I the only one who is extraordinarily aggravated to see all the d-men drafted with Petro in top 6 or 7 or whatever it was already impacting their teams significantly and Petro hasn't even had a single meaningful NHL experience yet?

I know, I know. Patience. But it's tough.

It doesn't make a ton of since, unless they think Brewer or Jackman is gone.

Also, Cole isn't even a year out of collage and Petri is less then a year removed from getting walked around regularly by 17 year olds. If he doesn't get his act together defensively, we won't be able to afford his liability back there at the same time as Jackman and Brewer.

Back in March, Checketts was quoted as saying:
"We'll be ambitious this offseason, I guarantee you that," Checketts said. "I think it may well be the most ambitious (since) we bought the team, because we're going to have real decisions to make and room in the salary cap."
Well? I haven't seen a whole lot of ambitiousness.
Sure, signing Coly and Steen was nice...but unfortunately, resigning your own players doesn't count...especially when those players were part of the team that failed to make the playoffs last year.

And signing Winchester??
Here's what Armstrong said about Winchester after signing him:
Doug Armstrong said. "At 6-foot-5, he brings size and power. We've seen some offense in the past, and we felt on a one-year deal, it was worth giving him an opportunity to come back to the roster.
"Brad has shown in the past that he can play the front-man presence on the power play, and he has the ability to skate with guys on the roster, but his consistency level has to increase on a more regular basis. In talking to our coaching staff, they feel that he's a player they can work with."
How is that being ambitious?

Do something.
