Re: GDT: NHL Free Agents vs NHL GM's
Would love to have Lee back. I really don't forsee the Blues getting Kovy. The money is there but how much of that will take a chunk out of the Blues pocket book and hurt us in having money in resigning the youth in a few years?

Yeah but what are we gonna end up with the same "use to be great players" we been getting for awhile nowWinning Unlimited wrote:The Blues are sitting on almost $28M in cap space. Hard to imagine that they won't do anything. We'll get someone.

Would you rather have Kovalchuk or Svatos and Frolov?

Re: GDT: NHL Free Agents vs NHL GM's
Because we are talking free agents and he is one of the few decent free agent forwards out there. I don't think anyone is getting all excited about him, its just that there are so few decent free agent forwards. Panger is just a big fan apparently.JWatt (formerly PMS) wrote:Why would anyone get all excited about a player that has only reached 20 goals and 50 points once in his entire career?section319 wrote:Don't forget Lombardi is still out there too, wouldn't be a bad pick up. Panger's been waxing poetic about him today on TSN's show on NHL Network.cprice12 wrote:Frolov, Stempy and Kovy still available.
I'll be very, very happy with Frolov.
I'll be ok with Stempy.
I'm not even thinking about Kovy, since it isn't going to happen.
I think Frolov would be had a little cheaper if he signs before Kovalchuk. If Kovalchuk signs first, then the teams who missed out on Kovy might overpay a little to get Frolov.

That there is a lot of v's.Winning Unlimited wrote:Would you rather have Kovalchuk or Svatos and Frolov?
Times have changed I guess. I used to associate players with too many v's in their name with the first "v" word that comes to mind. And I was usually spot on...

I hope we resign Colaiacovo and Weaver.
Coly provides some offense from the blue line, and he really wants to play here. Teams have a hard time winning without significant production from their blue line.
Weaver was just flat out good last year.
I can't imagine Weaver is offered anything of significance through FA as last year was his first good year...and he's small.
Hopefully Colaiacovo takes less to play here. T'would be nice.

Well, if money is no option...Kovy is the easy choice.vinnieblues wrote:Truthfully i think Frolov is the best choice.Winning Unlimited wrote:Would you rather have Kovalchuk or Svatos and Frolov?
At $7 million a season for Kovy, I'd take him over, say, $4 million a season for Frolov.
If frolov can be had for $3 million a season, I think you have to consider him as the best buy, but is he the best buy for THIS TEAM? Kovy is clearly the better player...and this team needs a superstar sniper who can net 40-50 goals a year. Kovalchuk fits that bill, Frolov does not.
But if Kovy is demanding $9 million-plus...I'd pass and sign Frolov.

Re: GDT: NHL Free Agents vs NHL GM's
I am really surprised at the lack of rumors linking the Leafs with Kovalchuk. They seem to make the most sense, big market team, plenty of cap space and I am sure they will be the team willing to overpay the most. The only thing I see holding it back is Kovy not wanting to go there cause they suck right now, but they just seem to make the most sense and haven't really been mentioned in the talks. I think Burke is pulling something off though and is somehow keeping it pretty quiet. I got my money on him going to Toronto though.

Re: GDT: NHL Free Agents vs NHL GM's
Colaiacovo and Weaver think they are worth more than what the Blues are willing to pay. So they want to see what offers they can get from another team and they'll bring those offers back to St. Louis to see if they will match, or come close if they will take less to play here.philco_3 wrote:I don't understand why they didnt try to resign them yet. I think Colaiacovo could get a decent offer from someone but I get the impression he will take a little less to stay here...he wants to play here. Not sure about Weaver though...but I don't think Weaver will get any offers the Blues wouldn't be willing to match.
I'd expect them to offer them both contracts, unless they want to spend that money on a forward.
Would they really let them both walk? I doubt it. Weaver should still come pretty cheap. Not sure why they wouldn't sign him. He's going to be one of those guys who is worth more than he is making.

That is probably my biggest complaint with him, he can be pretty smug sometimes. I don't know why it was outrageous for us to think we might go after him, considering we have the cap space and JD said we tried trading for him last season, so probably not much of a stretch. Of course losing a major investor in the team really threw a wrench into plans of spending closer to the cap. I don't mind Strickland when he's not being a douche and I am usually one to stick up for him, but he is kind of douchey sometimes.
