Souray for Brewer?

Holy babies, I hope hope hope this is real! Supposedly Strickland and Rutherford have made remarks about this too. I think Souray is 10x the player Brewer is, even though Oilers fans don't think so. Thoughts?

Re: Souray for Brewer?
I know a lot of people here are going to disagree, but Brewer is the better player next season. Plus, his contract expires earlier. I say let Edmonton throw in some extras, and we consider taking their player. Otherwise, no one else is going to trade for Souray. And... (here comes the pain, are you ready>>) we're not in a rush to trade Brewer.
Re: Souray for Brewer?
I just think that Souray is the better player in the deal, and locking him up for two years is a good thing. I think if you can get the caliber of defenseman that Souray is for such a cheap price (and getting rid of a guy that I despise), you can't pass this deal up.Winning Unlimited wrote:I know a lot of people here are going to disagree, but Brewer is the better player next season. EDIT: When I say cheap price, I mean for such a minimal return to EDM. Brewer is not making that much less than Souray that it will kill our cap.

Re: Souray for Brewer?
Its hard to defend Brewer. We can all agree that the Oilers are desperate to get rid of Souray, and we should take advantage of that. Lets see if we can get some draft picks for 2011.
Re: Souray for Brewer?
Maybe we can pull a Brian Burke and move Brewer for two first-round picks for the next two years? That seemed to work out for the Leafs...Winning Unlimited wrote:Its hard to defend Brewer. Re: Souray for Brewer?
Souray is injury prone...big time (to be fair, Brewer has been injury prone as well). Souray is pretty well one dimensional and he's 34 years old.
Everyone's initial thought when thinking of Souray is he would be a much needed big shot on the power play, at least that was my initial though. But in 37 games for Edmonton last year, Souray had zero power play goals and only 4 power play assists for a whopping total of 4 pts. Brewer put up 3 power play points last year.
If Souray can stay healthy for a full season, he may put up good numbers...but 2 of the last 4 seasons he has played less than half a season and put up horrible offensive numbers in those seasons. With that said, the other two of the past 4 seasons he has been healthy and put up very good offensive numbers.
Both players have played 11 seasons.
I hate the +/- stat...but...
Brewer is a -108 for his career.
Souray is a -52 for his career.
Brewer has only finished as a +, once in his career.
Souray has finished as a +, five times in his career.
Souray has scored 96 career goals. (47 on the PP)
Brewer has scored 56 career goals. (18 on the PP)
I think if the Blues do this trade, at worst they get back the same type of player with a year longer contract. At best, they have a deadly offensive weapon from the blue line...but don't expect anything better than Brewer defensively.
If they don't do the trade...we have Brewer for another season...I don't think anyone wants that.
Why would Edmonton do this deal? I guess they haven't paid attention to what Brewer has done here.

Look at it this way...
If Detroit were to trade for Souray, would you be pissed they got him because we didn't trade Brewer for him?

Re: Souray for Brewer?
The key here is the trading away of Brewer, not the used puck bag we get back in return. Addition by subtraction IMHO.

Re: Souray for Brewer?
Souray is capable of 50+ points a season.
Eric Brewer is not.
On the offensive side of the puck, I rest my case.
Defensively- I don't know, I mean we have enough stay-at-homers that I don't think this will kill us. At all. Last year, I'll be honest, either Brewer had a very decent year or I only saw the games where he played well because I remember very few times where I was yelling at the TV about him. I remember a Blackhawks game him playing terrible... but anyway...
Addition by subtraction. I can agree with that.

If this happens, I'll be forced to throw my Oilers alternate Souray jersey in the trash.

Re: Souray for Brewer?
Make this trade a hundred times over. And this trade, unlike some of the JAKMEN FER MALKINS!!@#!@@!!! proposals I've heard around here, actually has a chance in hell of happening. Edmonton rids itself of a disgruntled player and about a mil. dollars of salary and gains an overpaid overmatched human blooper reel. Wait, scratch that, Edmonton doesn't really gain anything.

Re: Souray for Brewer?
If he is available on re-entry, do we grab him? No way we pay the full salary for two years!!
