I nominate this thread for the hall of fame.

What is a bit annoying is hearing Federko talk about them still having a shot to get in.bamabluesfan wrote:And for the record while they arent mathmatically eliminated, I think we all know the blues arent making it in this year.
I appreciate his enthusiasm, but at this point, it's crazy to think they can still get in.
Back when this thread first started, and after the team's initial great run under Murray, it was still quite unlikely they'd get in, but still worth discussing since it was possible...especially with the way they were playing.
For me, the door all but closed when we lost to Minnesota when we could have pulled to within 6 pts of them, then we went on to lose something like 4 of the next 5 and Minnesota got hot and we quickly fell back to 12 or 14 pts. out...so...that killed us at that point.

What you're saying about Federko right now is what H-wood and I (and others) have been saying since this thread started. They were never anywhere going to make the playoffs. It was always crazy to think they could get in.cprice12 wrote:What is a bit annoying is hearing Federko talk about them still having a shot to get in.bamabluesfan wrote:And for the record while they arent mathmatically eliminated, I think we all know the blues arent making it in this year.

As for the points thing, if I had my way, The NHL would decrease the number of games in the regular season to about 50, BUT, there would be no ties.
Games tied at the end of regulation would go into sudden death, for as long as it takes.
Wins equal two points. Losses equal zero points.
No playing conservative to preserve the point. No 4 on 4, unless penalties are called, no shootouts, no points for losing, and more days in between games, so the guys can rest up after a two period OT'er.
That's what I'd like.

I like it....except for the number of games. (they won't reduce the number of games...too much lost revenue)_Gassoff wrote:As for the points thing, if I had my way, The NHL would decrease the number of games in the regular season to about 50, BUT, there would be no ties.

That's what I'd like.
But for the sake of discussion, I'd make it a 65 game season, sudden death OT for as long as it takes, winner gets 2 pts., loser gets 0 pts.
OR...
Play a full 20 minute OT period (possibly 4 on 4), followed by a shootout if still tied...winner gets 2 pts., loser gets 0 pts.
With less games, you can't play the other conference.
Absolutely no ties.
Get rid of the 3 pt. games already. Not good.

I've always been a die hard hockey fan, so no matter what I'm gonna watch a lot of hockey. My second favorite sport is NFL football.
One thing I just love about football is that there are only 16 games in a season, so every one counts bigtime. Fewer games make the ones that are played grander.
I really wouldn't mind the regular season in the NHL counting for more.

Much as I'd like to see it happen, The Blues won't even be able to pass Colorado, never mind passing Colorado AND Calgary. It's just a shame that current management wanted to give Kitchen a decent chance to show he could be a head coach on the NHL level. Had Murray started the season, The Blues would have made it. Even firing Kitchen 3 weeks earlier than they did, might have gotten The Blues in (but that's another story).
Checketts and J.D. want to have The Blues' organisation do right by the players and all employees, while at the same time, answer to the fans' needs.
They want to build an organisation known for class (for the longrun). They did right by Guerin and Tkachuk, and Kitchen and Legace. This will be the first really high-class blues' organisation since The Salomans. I predict they'll be winners and make The City of St. Louis proud. Let's just hope that the City Fathers appreciate this, and lift the City taxes.
