Re: Free Agent Moves and Major Trades

PTO to defenseman Mike Weber. Question... why? 28 year old experienced left defenseman. Just depth if he makes team. Wouldn't see much ice time unless there were injuries. Or..... camp body. Yeah, I mean, it's just a PTO. Why not? Worst case scenario is it's Paul Bissonnette and he's here for a few...

Re: Schwartz extended for 5 years/$27mil

Just get rid of the salary cap. It's causing more harm than good. Congrats to the 2010-2022 Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks! Salary cap is a double edged sword. It breeds parody but then you see this type of stuff happening. The NBA's salary cap and financial structure is fille with so many...

Re: Schwartz extended for 5 years/$27mil

Yeah, I like Kreider, I like Zuccarello, neither is a lights out offensive beast, but they would provide good secondary scoring. No way would I trade Shatty for either straight up. They come together, or they come with prospects. Edit: Actually just read that the Rangers may be shopping Kreider and...

Re: Schwartz extended for 5 years/$27mil

Good term, good figure, now it's on Schwartz to elevate his game, stay healthy, and put up points. Where the market is and what Schwartz offers us when he's healthy, this could be a steal in 2-3 years. They ended up avoiding arbitration, which is good, and got the #1 offseason priority signed. I'll ...

Re: Brian Elliott to Calgary for 35th pick & Cond 2018 3rd R

Army should have gotten more, but was anyone offering anymore? That's the other question here. It's a buyer's market. Elliott is a 31 year old goalie with great numbers but only 1 year left on his deal. Not guaranteed he re-signs there (and if he does, the Blues get a 3rd round pick...haven't seen t...

Re: Brian Elliott to Calgary for 35th pick & Cond 2018 3rd R

I'm sorry, is Kevin Shattenkirk the only Blues player able to be traded? With a D corps as strong as ours both on roster and in the minors, you're telling me that we couldn't offer something better that NJ did with Adam Larsson? Blues management was really in a bind there because God you know, we d...

Re: Brian Elliott to Calgary for 35th pick & Cond 2018 3rd R

I'm sorry, is Kevin Shattenkirk the only Blues player able to be traded? The Oilers wanted an established D-man to be their #1 guy. Shattenkirk will be demanding a raise after next season. We want a high scoring forward. A classic D for F trade. And before you say 'Bouwmeester,' I'm going to guess ...

Re: Brian Elliott to Calgary for 35th pick & Cond 2018 3rd R

The "we don't want to lose one for nothing" thing is only a worry if you're already dead set against any other solution in the first place. Honestly, is it an absolute certainty that the LV team would surely use one of their picks to take a Blues goalie? There wouldn't be other attractive options i...

Re: Brian Elliott to Calgary for 35th pick & Cond 2018 3rd R

Obviously the goal is to win a Cup. Why do you think that anyone that is hired here or signs here immediately says, 'I want to be the first to hoist a Cup for the Blues?' Why do you think Backes spoke to that on his way out? The problem with making short sighted moves and not thinking about the fut...

Re: Brian Elliott to Calgary for 35th pick & Cond 2018 3rd R

Before joining the Blues, Ells was crap. Whether he was the beneficiary of a great defense or a late bloomer is irrelevant. Probably both, but why can't Allen be the same? Upset because Elliott got us to our first WCF in ages? Where's the love for Roman Turek then? With a .926 GAA? (1) What were th...

Re: Prospects camp

I don't know enough about him to have a strong opinion about the pick. Giving up a 3rd round pick to move up 2 slots to take what many people are calling a reach is extremely peculiar though. We don't know the behind-the-scenes stuff, but that's a hard one to understand. The P-D has an article on h...

Re: Brian Elliott to Calgary for 35th pick & Cond 2018 3rd R

Blues will now pay $5.5M for goalies next season who will in all likelihood be less effective than this season and who, combined, have exactly 8 playoff starts between them. I don't get this, I really don't. You are leaving out the part that Ells asked the Blues to trade him if he wasn't going to b...

Is this aimed at me? I mean, I said that above, but I wasn't meaning positionally, I was meaning more from a points output and PP role standpoint.

Re: Free Agent Moves and Major Trades

There are so many people freaking out about the Blues losing Backes and Brouwer on social media, but I'm not seeing anyone saying they'd be willing to put up a combined 10 mil for both of these guys for 9 combined seasons spanning age ranges of 32-37 and 31-35.
