Re: Petro Signed: 7 yr, $6.5 M Per

Those lists are stupid. For example, they just released their list of top 100 forwards in the NHL, and Bobby Ryan wasn't on the list. Tarasanko and Jaden Swartz made the list though. I'm a pretty big Blues fan, and putting either of them in the top 100 is so unbelievably laughable, it makes my brain...

I saw Chris Pronger in Clayton about a month ago. True story. Completely irrelevant to the topic at hand, but whatever.

Re: Alex Pietrangelo talks break off for St. Louis Blues

Well, the last few elite defenseman that got contracts on the open market went for $98 million over 13 years and $110 million over 14 years.

Heck, our old pal Dennis Wideman signed for 5 years at 5.25 million per. Are we saying that Peitrangelo isn't 20% better than Dennis Wideman?

Re: Alex Pietrangelo talks break off for St. Louis Blues

I've been clear where my opinion sits on this mess. Right now, Petro hasn't proven he is worth what he and his agent are asking. I'm glad they aren't caving in. 8 years at $6 million per is more than he is worth right now. And if that was indeed the offer that Petro turned down...then screw him. If...

Re: Petro Negotiations

PK Subban is one of the weakest Norris trophy winners I can ever recall. They really need to split the trophy up into two awards, best offensive Dman and best all around Dman. In my opinion Petro is worth the cash. Salaries are going to skyrocket soon and the Blues will regret a bridge contract. Wor...

That's why they lost in Vancouver. The lettering on their jerseys was slowing them down.

I mean, not to be a debbie downer or anything, but in the last decade, the Blues have won exactly 1 playoff round.

Re: Hockey News: Blues to Win Cup

Hey that's super. Let's give them a ribbon for being the "toughest team to play in the playoffs". Sorry, not to sound snarky, but eventually you just get tired of hearing stuff like that. It just doesn't matter. Win in the playoffs. Good teams find a way to win. Score more goals than the other team ...

Re: Hockey News: Blues to Win Cup

That center quote is talking about 2 seasons ago.

Yeah, I don't buy it either.

I think the Blues have been a popular, "look at me, I'm smart" longshot pick for a long long time, but it never means anything.

I don't think this team is that close honestly. I think they're pretty good, but not great.

Re: 'Basically, we see too many red jerseys.'

To me this is almost like an invitation to the Blackhawks fans to fill our building even more. I think it's going to have the exact opposite effect. If (shudder) I was a Hawks fan, and I learned that one of my division rivals was taking steps to keep me out of their stadium, I would want to go even ...

Re: Petro Negotiations

The Blues won't sign him to an untradable contract. He won't be a total disaster anyway, unless he starts having bad injury problems. If the worst case scenario is he keeps playing like he did for most of last year, he's still a pretty damn good defensman. I mean, hell, he's what, 23? Most dmen don'...

Re: Petro Negotiations

I don't think they're allowed to structure them like that. why would Petro sign that anyway? Its not in his best interest. Personally I do think they should just lock him up for 8 years. Why not? You can always trade him if for some reason things get weird. 8 years at 6 million per I would think wou...

For example... the best thing that could have happened to the Blues would have been for them to lose the draft lotto in '06 when they picked Johnson.

Re: Grantland: How We'd Fix the NHL

Here's my question though... how much do individual players really care about getting their current team high draft picks? Is that really what motivates them?

Most draft picks don't play for at least 2-3 years.

Re: Grantland: How We'd Fix the NHL

Is tanking really a big problem? I'm not so sure it is. It sucks being a fan of your team and rooting for them to lose, but I have a feeling that such a tiny percentage of fans actually do that. It seems to me that there is enough randomness and luck involved in whether or not your pick actually wor...

Re: Petro Negotiations

I really don't understand why they gave Bouwmeester a contract before Petro. You can't say that deal isn't being used by Petro's people as leverage for his deal. I hope they can work something out like glen suggested; a more reasonable base salary with performance-based incentives. Unfortunately, I...
