Okay, so Callahan is an UFA after this year and is apparently seeking 6 years at 7 million per. And he's having a bad year.

It makes more sense now. Callahan and Backes are similar enough that I don't think we'd want to pay him that kind of money.

That deal is laughable. That's like trading 2 first round picks and two decent roster players for a rental.

If Miller was 29 and signed to a 5 million deal for the next 6 years it would still be overpayment. But he's an unrestricted free agent.
